Legislation We’re Tracking

Bills on Beacon Hill that affect Yarmouth — and what they actually say.

Most legislation passes without anyone outside the State House reading it. We read the bills, quote them directly, and link to the official text so you never have to take our word for any of it.

Where we think a bill is wrong, we say so and show our work. Where a claim circulating about a bill is inaccurate — including claims from people who agree with us — we say that too.

Active Bills

Now law — Chapter 188, signed August 10

H.5595 — Late-Term Abortion Standards →

Deleted the four legal standards governing abortion after 24 weeks and repealed the requirement that those procedures happen in a hospital. Passed the House 119–33 on July 22 and the Senate on a standing vote July 31, so no senator’s individual position was recorded. Signed August 10 as Chapter 188 of the Acts of 2026. Both of Yarmouth’s representatives voted yes. A petition drive to repeal it is under way — repeal188.com.

In Senate Ways and Means since January 12

S.2134 — A State Commission for One Religion →

Would write a permanent commission for the adherents of a single faith into the General Laws, with a paid director and a state-held account. Massachusetts removed its own religious test for office in 1821. No Yarmouth legislator has taken a position either way.

How to Use These Pages

Each one ends the same way: with the name of the person who represents you, and a specific question to ask. Legislators count contacts from their own districts and largely ignore everything else. A two-minute phone call from a constituent outweighs a hundred shares from strangers.

When you get an answer, tell us what they said. We publish every response we receive, including the ones we don’t like.
