Life is one of the issues our members named most often on this year’s sign-up forms. This page shares where we stand, facts worth knowing — each with its source — and real help available on Cape Cod right now.

Where we stand

We believe every human life has worth from its very beginning. Scripture puts it simply: “You wove me in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13). But you don’t need a Bible to reach the same conclusion — biology gets there too, and a compassionate community backs it up with practical help for mothers who need it.

Did you know?

• On the science: in a survey of 5,577 biologists from 1,058 academic institutions worldwide, 96% affirmed that a human’s life begins at fertilization — a result published in the peer-reviewed literature and indexed by the National Library of Medicine. In Massachusetts: this is now the law

On August 10, 2026, Governor Healey signed H.5595 into law. It struck every statutory condition that Massachusetts law placed on abortion after 24 weeks — the life-of-the-mother, health, and fatal-diagnosis standards — and repealed the requirement that late-term procedures be performed in a hospital. The result, in plain terms: Massachusetts law now permits abortion at any point in pregnancy, up to birth, on the professional judgment of a single physician, with no statutory conditions that judgment must meet. Massachusetts is now the 11th state with no gestational limit on abortion. The House passed it 119–33 on July 22; the Senate 15–4 on July 31; both Yarmouth representatives voted yes.
